The Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is one of Baltimore’s most important facilities, responsible for treating millions of gallons of wastewater daily before it enters the Chesapeake Bay. However, the digital systems used to manage plant operations were outdated, fragmented, and difficult for operators to navigate. Critical information—like equipment status, compliance risks, and process flow—was buried in complex screens, making it hard for teams to act quickly and confidently.
As a UX designer, I led a redesign of the plant’s digital interface with a focus on clarity, usability, and operational insight.
